This morning while I stayed with Joshua and Clara while Meghan took Hannah in to get her flu shot, we saw a small cricket walking in our house. Normally I hate crickets, but this one seemed different. He didn't chirp or jump, so he may have been injured, but he seemed happy to just walk around. Joshua asked to hold him (of course after confirming that the cricket wouldn't bite), and the cricket sat on his finger while Clara looked on with interest. Both kids got to hold the cricket and have it walk on them. They seemed pleased they could interact with such a cool bug. Later, we decided to watch Veggie Tales, and the Cricket happily sat on my hand while we were all on the couch. He was like our little pet for the morning. Sadly, he was inadvertently squished later in the morning by one particular little boy, but it may have been for the best if he was injured. But at least the cricket got to enjoy his final hours with a family who enjoyed spending time with him, which is more than pretty much any other cricket in history can say.
