Touring Savannah

Today was our only full day in Savannah and we wanted to make the most of it so it was a very busy and a little bit tiring day, but we had a lot of fun. We started the day off with a carriage tour of historic Savannah. You can choose whether you want your tour to focus on ghosts or history and we definitely wanted history. Our guide seemed knowledgeable and gave us a lot of interesting stories and facts about the city while showing us the town.

After the tour we took a break for lunch and had an extremely disappointing meal at Paula Deen's Lady and Sons restaurant. I am totally willing to eat something highly caloric if it is delicious, but this was the worst combination of highly caloric and tastes like nothing. The lemonade was like sugar syrup with a slight lemony aftertaste. Jason actually sent his meal back and he never does that. Luckily, that was the only bad part of the day.

After lunch, we took a walking tour of the city with an app I had downloaded on my phone. We aren't big into group tours so we really liked being able to see the city at our own pace, but still get a lot of key facts. One great thing about Savannah is that they have these beautiful city squares. Not only are they interesting and pretty to look at, but since it was on the warm side, we always had a nearby shady place to take a break.

The tour was supposedly two hours, but I think that's the actual playing time of the tracks, not including any pauses or walks between locations. It took us 2.5-3 hours and so after that, we got a cool drink and walked back to the hotel for a brief nap before dinner. (Well I napped. Jason doesn't believe in naps so he just relaxed).

We once again headed out, this time to The Olde Pink House, which may be Savannah's most famous restaurant. Their reputation was well deserved as both our meals were outstanding. We had a great day and are looking forward to having a little bit more time here tomorrow.
