A Horrible Visit

Today I took both girls to the doctor while Peg watched Joshua. Clara never likes the doctor. Even when she isn't being seen, she doesn't trust strangers, she doesn't like being weighed, she doesn't like anything about it. Well, she is usually okay with holding the light and stethoscope, but that's about it. However, today she was just in a bad mood or something because this was by far the crankiest she has ever been at a visit. This photo was pretty representative. She was just getting a weight check so they really didn't do much other than put her on the scale. She weighs 17 lbs. The doctor and I agreed that there is no point in further weight checks since she is being seen by specialists and all that will happen is the doctor will continue to say, "Very thin" and I will say, "Yep. Let me know when you have an idea that I haven't tried" so it's not a good use of my time.

Hannah was there for her 9 month check and she is healthy. She weighs about 16.5 lbs. The only surprising thing with Hannah is that she is still average height, but is now in the eighth percentile for weight. They aren't concerned about this as long as she doesn't continue to drop into lower percentiles over time. Many babies go into a new percentile around nine months when they get more mobile and are more dependent on solids and Jason was quite thin as a child so it could just be her new normal. Although I do find it interesting that when Clara was that age, she was about two pounds less and those two pounds are the difference between , "Oh she's probably fine. We'll watch her." and "Oh, that's awful, see every specialist in the world". It's apparently a big two pounds.
