Little Miss Sunshine Turns 1

Today we had Hannah's first birthday party. Our theme was Little Miss Sunshine because of her sweet and cheerful disposition. My favorite project was the birthday hat I made her. I felt like she needed a little something since she doesn't have the hair to support a bow and I thought it came out super cute.

We did a breakfast buffet (waffles aren't pictured since they are in the oven) to go with the sunshine theme. We started at 10:30 to accomodate that, which is thirty minutes earlier than we normally start parties. Hannah is a super cheerful person when she wakes up in the morning, so breakfast is a perfect type of food for her party. It's really funny because Hannah wakes up and is all smiles and loves life from the second she opens her eyes. Clara is more like a true Leach when it comes to mornings and is disoriented and confused about why we are even awake and it definitely takes her awhile to warm up to the whole being awake thing. I find it completely adorable that they are so opposite.

Jason is my cake decorator, as he has been for all the kids' birthdays. He did a great job with Hannah's cake and piping the icing on the cupcakes.

Hannah really enjoyed it. She was a little more cautious and subdued than the other kids were on their birthdays, but she got into it after awhile. She doesn't like gooey things so I think the frosting held her back from eating the cake with abandon.

After cake we did presents. We got a lot of great gifts, but I am not sure Hannah really cared about too much of it. Which worked out fine because Joshua and Clara were very eager to try out all the toys.  These parties are a lot of work for Jason and I, but we find them very worth it and we love celebrating and seeing our friends. We might have to start having an open house or fall party now that we are done with first birthdays. We loved celebrating our little miss sunshine's first birthday in a big way.
