Throwin' Down the Rock
Did you know a regulation basketball hoop is nearly twice as wide as a regulation basketball? It's true, even though it might not appear that way when watching a game. We bought Joshua a basketball hoop for his birthday, because every kid should have a basketball hoop. He has one attached to the slide/sports thing we have in the playroom, but that hoop was clearly designed by someone who works at an amusement park, because like the basketball hoops at Worlds of Fun, the ratio of the diameter of the hoop to the diameter of the ball is much smaller than it should be, making it much more difficult to actually make a shot. The new hoop has the correct ratio, and playing basketball with it is a much less humbling experience. Still, Joshua has not taken to it much. He'll play if I suggest we do it together, but I don't think I've seen him do it on his own. Clara seems to have a little more enthusiasm for it, though not much. But today we played a game together, and I encouraged her to slam dunk the ball. She is juuuust barely tall enough to get it over the rim, which reminded me of when Joshua was in the same situation with our original hoop.
